Bugles Across America

A bill was passed in January of 2000 that guaranteed veterans that they would receive at their funeral a flag ceremony performed by at least two uniformed service personnal and the playing of "Taps". Taps may be played from a CD recording, if a bugler was not available. Former Marine Thomas Day did not find that acceptable. In November of that same year, he founded "Bugles Across America". This organization now has over 6,000 volunteer buglers throughout the nation and over-seas. Jerry Mitchell is one of these volunteers and when he sounds "Taps" at one of these funeral he can be seen wearing his Navy uniform. Family members of veterans wanting a live bulger to perform at the veterans funeral can go to: http://www.buglesacrossamerica.org/ from there, click on either the "Request a Bugler" or "Find a Bugler" links. This will take you to a page where you enter the date and time of the event as well as its location and the reason for the event. Once this information has been entered on the webpage, the request will be dispatched to the nearest bugler in your area. If they are available to perform, they will respond. BAA is a non-profit organization and its buglers are volunteers. There is no cost to the family or the organization requesting the bugler to perform.
